The Post-Op Shopping List: What You Need to Buy Before Your Surgery

After undergoing surgery, it is important to make sure that you have everything you need to make the recovery process as smooth and comfortable as possible. One way to ensure this is by preparing a post-op shopping list. Here are some essential items that should be on your list:

Medications and Supplements

Make sure that you have all the medications that your doctor has prescribed for you or cleared you to take. This may include stool softeners, pain relievers, antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, arnica, scar gel, and lymphatic drops.

Dressings, Bandages, and Protective Covering

Depending on the type of surgery you have undergone, you may need to change dressings and bandages regularly. It is important to have a good supply of these items to avoid running out. This may include gauze, sterile dressing, and an antiseptic solution for cleaning the incision site

We recommend waterproof bed coverings, chuck pads, and poise pads especially when incisions are open.

Compression Garments and Other Post-Op Essentials

Many surgical procedures require the use of compression garments to help reduce swelling and improve circulation. These garments may include fajas, abdominal binder, compression socks, head wraps, or sleeves.

Depending on the type of surgery, you may need to sleep in a certain position or prop yourself up with pillows to reduce swelling. Make sure that you have enough pillows on hand to keep yourself comfortable. A BBL pillow may be recommended by your physician. It is important to check with your surgeon for post-op instructions.

Depending on the procedure, other recommended items include:

Female urinal, toilet seat riser, knee pads for no sitting restrictions, abdominal board, back board, foams (at least 3 pack), recliners, or zero gravity lounge chair.

Hygiene Products

After surgery, you may need to take extra care with your hygiene routine. Stock up on items such as antibacterial soap, disposable wipes, and dry shampoo.

Dial soap and Hibiclens are both antiseptic agents that lower the risk of infections and is effective at killing a wide range of bacteria and other microorganisms.

Nutritious Foods

Proper nutrition is important for a healthy recovery. Stock up on nutrient-rich foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains.

Entertainment

Recovery can be a boring and lonely process, so make sure that you have plenty of entertainment options on hand such as books, magazines, and movies.

Preparing a post-op shopping list can help make the recovery process much easier and less stressful. Make sure to consult with your doctor or surgeon to ensure that you have all the necessary items for a successful recovery.
